Background

Boyd (pictured left) holds degrees in Geology and Hydrology from the University of NH (Durham). He has nearly 20 years’ experience with environmental remediation, regulatory compliance, permitting and safety projects. He has spent time at Newfound Lake since the 1960s, initially as a care-free vacationer and more recently combining off-season work with pleasure at his parents’ seasonal cottage in Pasquaney Bay. He is passionate about finding options for combining sustainable economic growth and natural resource management. He also holds an MBA from UNH where he developed leadership skills to help meet these goals.

Martha Twombly spent summers growing up on Newfound Lake at the log cabin her grandfather built in the 1930s, and winters skiing at Tenney Mtn. She holds a BA in Anthropology, and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from Antioch NE Graduate School. Most recently she hailed from Cape Cod where she was an environmental and regulatory planner for the Cape Cod Commission, and served as Cape Cod Pathways Coordinator for Barnstable County. Prior to that Martha was managing editor for Chelsea Green Publishing, an environmental publisher focusing on books related to sustainable living such as: green building methods, organic gardening and farming, and alternative energy. She brings a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, and a love for the waters and habitats of the Newfound Lake region.

Her belief that learning about the environment comes from experiencing it first hand guides the NLRA program goals, as the organization focuses on monitoring the health of the lake and supporting initiatives that preserve water quality, habitat quality, robust business opportunities, and the special quality of life for the towns, residents, and students in the watershed.
