Conservation Center Update: March 19, 2025

Email Header Capital Campaign Conservation Center

Dear Newfounder,

My last update to supporters of the Grey Rocks Conservation Center included a video tour of the inside, with walls framed and individual rooms mapped out. With drywall now installed, the rooms and details of the interior are really starting to feel like a future conservation center!

In this update I want to highlight the importance of one space in particular—the water quality lab.

Our water quality data documents how big storms send stormwater pollution into Newfound Lake, hurting water quality and increasing our risk of harmful cyanobacteria blooms. While Newfound Lake is amazingly resilient, it is clear that in order to protect water quality into the future, we must expand our water quality protection initiatives.

Thanks to your investment, NLRA will have a dedicated space equipped with the tools we need to strengthen our scientific capabilities, enhancing existing water quality work and growing our programs that build Newfound’s resilience to pollution and other threats. It will support the volunteer force we rely on to monitor water quality and enable us to grow volunteer participation in conservation.

Below is a simple rendering of this critical space:

As always, reach out with your questions. Thank you for supporting the Grey Rocks Conservation Center project.

Warmly,

Rebecca Hanson
