SIX TIPS FOR LAKE-FRIENDLY BOATING

Keep Newfound a boater’s paradise, now and into the future.

  1. Minimize the use of motorboats in shallow areas, which can contribute to algal growth and decreased lake clarity.
  2. Do not operate a motoboat within 150 feet of any shoreline at greater than headway speed (6mph) to protect the shoreline from erosion and habitat damage.
  3. Reduce pollution by eliminating unnecessary idling.
  4. Protect loons, a threatened species in New Hampshire, by operating away from loons and loon nesting areas.
  5. If you operate a wakeboat, take care to minimize generating waves that travel to the shoreline to reduce erosion.
  6. Prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species with CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY.

For more tips and boating information, see this article by NH LAKES.

CLEAN THESE AREAS OF YOUR BOAT.
DRAIN EVERY CONCEIVABLE SPACE OR ITEM THAT CAN HOLD WATER.
DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE LAUNCHING INTO ANOTHER WATERBODY.

BOATING CLUBS AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Newfound Lake Sailing Club– Join the newly formed NLSC (Newfound Lake Sailing Club) every Sunday for mixed fleet racing on the northern end of Newfound Lake. No experience is required. We are looking for boats on the start line. The races will be a fun learning experience so that Newfound can participate in off-lake regattas and even host our own regattas! There are also opportunities to crew and to have an experienced racer onboard. All boats or interested sailors are welcome. Although NLSC is an all-volunteer organization some operating expenses are expected so a nominal fee will be collected at the end of the season. Learn more.

Newfound Kayak Club – Connect with fellow kayakers who paddle this lake. Membership is free. “We are an active, friendly club of kayakers of all ages and abilities. Our mission is to have fun paddling on Newfound Lake, its estuaries and its lazy rivers…” Learn more.

Whitewater Kayaking in Bristol– Many thrill seekers travel to the Newfound River and surrounding rivers for a fast-paced paddling adventure. This can be dangerous and paddlers must be aware of recent weather events, as well as the schedule of the Newfound and Ayer’s Island Dam releases, if they would like to attempt the trip.
