Newfound Science Pub: The Lake in Winter

There is a lot going on under the surface of Newfound Lake in winter! Join us for a conversation with Brea Arvidson, Director of Programs at NH LAKES, to explore what’s going on under the ice, how cold weather plays a role in keeping Newfound Lake healthy, and how shifting winter conditions and warming temperatures can impact Newfound’s clean water.

Newfound Science Pub connects the community to experts in science and conservation. Discuss current issues, ask your burning questions, and share your own perspective in a casual, social atmosphere.

Doors open at 5pm, program runs 6-7pm. Registration is required.

Birding in the Hebron Town Forest

Join us for a guided bird walk at the Hebron Town Forest. In winter it can feel like all of the animals have disappeared, but there is a vibrant bird community if you head outside! Birders will explore the meadow and woods at the Hebron Town Forest, learning to identify birds by sight and sound. This event is geared toward all people with an interest in exploring the natural world. Participants should be able to walk 2 miles.

Nature Station: Wildlife Tracks at Slim Baker!

In winter some wildlife can be hard to find, as we or they stay out of the cold- but they do leave clues about what they are doing if we know what to look for. Join NLRA and the Slim Baker Foundation for a special Nature Station exploring wildlife tracks! Learn how to identify different footprints and gaits, walk the trails looking for animal tracks and sign, and make a craft to take home- plus take some time in the field to add to Slim Baker’s Snow Creations! Nature Station is a drop-in program with activities designed for kids of all ages. This program is free and open to all.

Introduction to Animal Tracks & Sign

Animal tracks are a great way to learn about which species are in an area, but they can be tricky to decipher. Join NLRA Education & Outreach Manager Mirka Zapletal for an introduction to track identification at Hebron Town Forest. We’ll start with a look at different types of tracks and gaits, sharing tips for what to cue in on, and finish with a short hike looking for recent tracks. This program is free and open to all.
