Find Peace, Quiet, and Beauty on Newfound’s Hiking Trails
One of our favorite hikes takes you on the south end of the beautiful Elwell Trail, where you can explore some of Newfound’s finest conserved land. Parking is located just north of Wellington State Park off West Shore Road. This easy-to-moderate hike is one of our favorites for its expansive vistas — there are magnificent views from the Sugarloaf summits and across Goose Pond – mixed with intimate solitude. Look for eagles soaring over Wellington Bay and beaver activity around the Pond.
Dogs are welcome but must be leashed, and owners are responsible for carrying out all pet waste.
Discover Your Sanctuary at NH Audubon’s Paradise Point
NH Audubon is independent, statewide non-profit organization that focuses on education, conservation, and sanctuary stewardship. Through their education programs, they show us how to enjoy nature in a way that protects the environment.
One of NH Audubon’s sanctuaries is located here in the Newfound area — Paradise Point in Hebron. Erected in 1968 and opened in 1969, the Paradise Point sanctuary is the first and oldest NH Audubon center. This beautiful, 43-acre property has more than 3,000 feet of shoreline and access to Newfound Lake via canoe and kayak rentals (check out the Northern Newfound Water Trail). Restrooms are available and picnicking is allowed during summer business hours. Paradise Point is a Leave No Trace carry in/carry out facility.
People visit Paradise Point for various outdoor activities, including bird watching, education, research, trail walks, and live-animal exhibits. When you walk the trails, you’re likely to see loon, eagles, kingfisher diving into the water, or even Cedar Waxwings feeding berries to each other! Bring your binoculars and field guide or borrow theirs.
All summer long, Paradise Point offers opportunities for outdoor and indoor fun, adventure, and education about nature and Newfound. From the Tuesday Red Barn series, to Wednesday’s Nature’s Magic Sponge for kids, to plant identification workshops and canoe and kayak rentals, Paradise Point is one of New Hampshire’s gems. See program descriptions, schedules, and registration information.
Back by popular demand, Andrea Charbonneau will conduct S.U.P. fitness and yoga classes/lessons based out of Paradise Point (Board rentals available). Contact Andrea via email.
There’s something for everyone at Paradise Point! Be sure to put it on your list of summer activities – you won’t be disappointed.

Along with the lake pendants, the New Hampshire Heritage Collection includes loons, sap buckets, covered bridges, and the Old Man in the Mountain.
