NLRA – Grey Rocks Conservation Area

Picture1

A lot has been happening at Grey Rocks this summer. On July 16 NLRA staff, the NYCC Crew, and Americorps volunteers spent the day learning about permaculture and sheet mulching under the direction of Liz Kelly from Resilience Planning and Design. Sheet mulching will provide improved soil conditions to plant shrubs this Fall. Coming soon – picnic tables and benches. Grey Rocks attracts lots of visitors that enjoy fishing and walking the trails, observing nature and wildlife. We hope you take time to explore all that Grey Rocks has to offer! Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for details about our next volunteer day, planned for this September.

Well-behaved dogs on a leash are allowed, but owners are responsible for removing all pet waste. Please remember, Grey Rocks is a Leave No Trace, carry-in/carry-out property.

Homestead Restaurant & Tavern Celebrates 40 Years in Business

Picture3Bill & Carolyn McDonough opened the Homestead in 1978 with 3 small dining rooms and a bar they added to an old farmhouse. Now managed by their son, Mark, The Bristol Homestead is celebrating 40 years in business this year.

Over the years, The Homestead added a 65-seat dining room overlooking the gardens and a 35-seat private function room – ideal for rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, and other group events.

Mark’s experience managing both Homestead Restaurants and three Fratello’s Restaurants has shown that guests prefer to dine either in a tavern environment or an outside setting. So last year they created one of the most beautiful outdoor patio dining areas in the region. Nestled into the gardens of the original farm house, the 60-seat patio features two large fire pits, creative lighting, fountains and is bordered with gas torches that create a warm, comfortable dining experience.

Picture2Nearing completion (and open while construction wraps up), Mark and his team created a warm and cozy Tavern for guests to enjoy appetizers or a full meal. A beautiful stone fireplace and a large central bar were added to this latest addition, creating an ideal gathering place for friends and family.

The menus are constantly changing at all of their locations. Full dinner and tavern menus are available, along with happy hour and seasonal menus that offer their chef’s an opportunity to showcase local and seasonal favorites. In addition, they offer weekday specials featuring Prime Rib, Burger Night, Pasta special, and fish fry for the best value in the Lakes Region.

The Homestead is located at 1567 Summer St. in Bristol, NH. Call them at (603) 744-2022 or visit their website to learn more.
