Summer Has Arrived in Newfound!
After a long winter, Newfound is shedding its mantel and warming up for the summer. Seasonal folks are arriving and preparing for cool water, sunny days and starry nights. Boats are appearing on the Lake and loons have been sighted. The NLRA is fortunate to have great, local business partners and encourage you to support those businesses. Here are some suggestions of things to do and places to go that will increase your summer fun.
NLRA – Grey Rock Conservation Area
North Shore Rd, Hebron
If you haven’t been to Grey Rocks yet, what are you waiting for? Now is the perfect time to head to Grey Rocks for a paddle on the Cockermouth River to the Lake or to walk on the nature trails. Three easy trails lead to viewing platforms, where you can set up your camera and observe nature. It’s not unusual to see deer, birds or beaver activity.
Hundreds of plants were planted last year and we are looking forward to watching these plants become established and thrive. Several fishing coves were installed and benches and picnic tables have been added to the site. We plan to continue adding plants and trees, including American Elms and American Chestnuts.
Please be respectful of the native critters and keep your distance. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are allowed, but owners are responsible for removing pet waste. Please remember, Grey Rocks is a Leave No Trace, carry-in/carry-out property.
Experience Newfound!
Our New Business Partner
There’s been a lot of chat around town about our newest business partner,Experience Newfound, and what it’s going to offer. Recently, we had the opportunity to meet with the owner, Trish Miller, to get the inside scoop.
Trish has been coming to Newfound Lake since 1968 and it’s been her burning desire to be at the lake full-time… so she’s opening a business to share her love of everything Newfound!
She’s an avid boater and water skier and decided to help others get on the water by offering kayak and paddleboard rentals. Rentals are available hourly, 1/2 day, full day, and weekly. They’ll be open 7 days a week from 7am to 10pm. Pickup is available or they can deliver your rental to the south end of the lake.
You may have noticed the improvements that were made to the building at 11 Hobart Rd, across from the church at the south end of Newfound. Extensive renovations created space for a store which will sell Newfound t-shirts and memorabilia, and a restaurant for pub food: sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs, clam baskets, scallop baskets and fries. Beer and wine will be available and twenty four flavors of Hood soft serve ice cream will be offered. Yard games and picnic tables are provided and they have free wifi!
Her love of dogs means the outside will be dog-friendly with water bowls and a hitch where you can put your dog while you pick up your food. Does your dog love the lake, too? Trish is asking for people to drop off past or present photos of people and animals enjoying the lake, which she’ll frame and adorn the walls.
By the end of June, she’ll have an ice cream boat on the lake which will sell novelties, bags of ice, and sandwiches. She plans to be at the Shallows on the weekends and will also have a route around the Lake.
Experience Newfound currently employs 5 full time, local employees and 15 part-time employees. They plan to be open year round and will sell the kayaks and paddleboards annually at the end of the season at discounted rates. Next year, Trish plans to have summer programs for kids and will be offering kayak and boating tours.
Please stop by Experience Newfound at 11 Hobart Road, Bristol to welcome this new business to the area and partake in some of their offerings! To learn more, follow them on Facebook.
