Views and Solitude along the Elwell Trail
Walk the beautiful Elwell Trail and explore some of Newfound’s finest conserved land. Parking is located just north of Wellington State Park on West Shore Road. This easy-to-moderate hike is one of our favorites for its expansive vistas — there are magnificent views from the Sugarloaf summits — and intimate solitude. Look for eagles soaring over Wellington Bay, and beaver activity around Goose Pond.
Visit Cardigan Mountain Country Store for Unique Gifts — and the Mt. Cardigan Orchard to Pick Apples!
Since 2013, the Cardigan Mountain Country Store, on 231 Lake Street in Bristol, has showcased products from local farms, artisans, and craftspeople. This family run store is a great place to browse for quality, unique gifts at affordable prices. Breakfast and lunch are offered Tuesday through Sunday from 8am-3pm. Favorite seasonal selections include delicious apple cider donuts and a variety of fresh fruit from the orchard. Call (603) 744-0303 for more details.
Want to take the kids on a pick-your-own adventure? Head to Mt. Cardigan Orchard on 1540 Mt. Cardigan Road in Alexandria for 15+ varieties of apples. The orchard is open from Labor Day to the end of October, 10am-5pm. (603) 744-2248
Enjoy a Relaxing Stay at the Blue Moon Motel
Since 2013, the family-owned Blue Moon Motel, located on 435 Mayhew Turnpike in Hebron, NH, has been managed by Mary, Anne, and Melissa Joyce. Do you love Newfound and have the photos to prove it? Enter your photos into the NLRA contest and you could win a $100 dining gift certificate and NLRA Ecotour for 4 people.
Here are the details:
- Contest ends on Labor Day, September 4. NLRA will notify the winner by September 15.
- You may submit up to 3 images. If your photo features people, we will need a signed release form from every person in the photo giving permission to be in the photo.
- Submission of your image grants NLRA nonexclusive rights to publish the image in any format in our publications, promotional material, and on our website.
- Digital images must be at least 6 megapixels (2832 x 2128 pixels) in size. Use highest resolution/ best quality settings on your camera.
Email your image to info@newfoundlake.org and include your name, contact info, and where the photo was taken. Limit email attachments to 5 mg each. Thank you!
