A Perfect Fall Day in the Newfound Area
Fall is in the air, bringing cooler temperatures and a colorful display of red, gold, and orange leaves — the perfect time to explore Newfound and enjoy the beauty of our area. Here are some suggestions for what to do and see.
New Amenities at NLRA’s Grey Rocks Conservation Area
Whether you choose to walk or paddle, it’s always worth a trip to Grey Rocks, located in Hebron on North Shore Road. In addition to the existing outdoor opportunities, a third observation platform has been constructed at the end of wheel-friendly Sandy Point Trail. Bring your binoculars and cameras because you will likely see heron, ducks, turtles, eagles, and loons. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on a leash, but owners are required to clean up after their pet.
Get Nearer to Nature at the Squam Lakes Science Center
If you haven’t been to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center lately, it’s time to visit! It is located on 23 Science Road (Route 113) in Holderness, exit 24 off I-93. The live animal exhibit trail is open until the end of October, where you’ll have a chance to get up close to bears, bobcats, otters, and many more animals. Bring a picnic and plan to spend at least two hours walking the exhibit trails, then head over to Kirkwood Gardens to enjoy your lunch in its peaceful setting. Don’t forget to stop by the Howling Coyote Gift Shop for books, toys, clothing and gifts.
