In Memory of Pete Debassio

Peter Daniel "Pete" DeBassio 
January 16, 1966 - March 21, 2023

There were two things Pete really loved: time at Newfound Lake with family and teaching science at East Shore Middle School, Milford, CT. The love affair with Newfound Lake started at birth with annual family summer vacations at our grandparent's farmhouse in Rumney, where the family would open and close Wellington State Park every day of vacation.  It extended with family vacations renting at Bungalo Village starting in 2000 and became permanent with the purchase of a bungalo cabin in 2004. The love of teaching middle school science was a career change in 2000.  For the next 20+ summers, Pete would share examples of the ecology of the lake, the weather, the watershed and mountains with his children, nieces and nephews as the family was so often at Bungalo Village and Cummings Beach enjoying Newfound Lake.

The DeBassio family is celebrating Pete's legacy by contributing to the Newfound Lake Region Association's Robinson Moore Fund for Clean Water and Community Awareness. Expanding educational programming for local school children and summer campers and funding projects supporting water quality was a natural way for the DeBassio family to honor Pete's love of Newfound Lake and of teaching science.
