Dear Supporters,
I’m reaching out with incredible gratitude to announce that over $30,000 has been raised for the Newfound Lake Region Association in memory of Pete DeBassio. The outpouring of donations speaks to Pete’s influence in life, and we are so proud to be the recipient of funds that create a permanent legacy in his honor.
Our mission is to protect Newfound Lake and its watershed. Our programs include education and outreach as well as direct conservation efforts that stop polution and protect land and water resources.
In my last update to Pete’s memorial donors, I shared about how local elementary studens were learning about ice cores to understand how scientists track climate and atmosphere changes. As we move into spring, NRLA recently intrudced students to soil cores. Like ice cores, soil cores can give clues about the environment, including its current health and historical land use. By connectin kids to the environment through hands-on learning opportunities, we’re building a generation of engaged environmental stewards ready to continue today’s efforts to protect our land and water.
Because your donation is being invested in an endowed fund, it will support the work we do this year, next year, and for all the years to come.
Thank you for honoring Pete’s legacy and making a difference for the Newfound community with your support.
In appreciation,
Rebecca Hanson
