BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE:

A CAMPAIGN FOR THE GREY ROCKS CONSERVATION CENTER

Building for the Future is a $2.2 million fundraising initiative to build a Conservation Center at Grey Rocks that serves the growing needs of the Newfound community and beyond. It will serve as a hub for innovative watershed science, a community gathering place, an educational center, and an example of sustainable development. Read our case for support.

PARTICIPATING IN THE CDFA TAX CREDIT PROGRAM

Businesses can support the Newfound Lake Region Association’s Grey Rocks Conservation Center by purchasing tax credits through the Community Development Finance Authority Tax Credit Program, resulting in a donation to the Newfound Lake Region Association and the company receiving a 75% tax credit against that contribution, plus the potential for additional tax savings. The credit can be applied against the Business Profits Tax, Business Enterprise Tax, or Insurance Premium Tax. A business can claim the tax credit once the donation is received by CDFA and may carry it forward for up to five years.

CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

Expand opportunities for participation in educational programming around watershed science and conservation for people of every age, ability, and socioeconomic status.

Broaden the visibility of NLRA and our services, engaging the community in watershed exploration in all four seasons and in any weather.

Strengthen our scientific capabilities and response time to emerging conservation threats.

Build out our volunteer force and remove barriers to volunteer participation.

FEATURES AND IMPACT

ENERGY EFFICIENCIES
Investing in energy-efficiency and generating electricity on-site with a solar array will reduce our carbon footprint and minimize operating costs.

WATER QUALITY LAB
At the core of our mission is water quality protection. Our laboratory space will support our current water quality monitoring program and our volunteers as well as grow our monitoring efforts to address modern threats to water quality.

STORMWATER LANDSCAPING
Landscaping around the conservation center and parking area will manage stormwater better than existing site conditions. Our stormwater management will ensure that stormwater infiltrates into the ground, and it will serve as an exmple of lake-friendly landscaping, with practical examples of many stormwater management practices.

POLLINATOR GARDENS
Gardens and plantings around the building will complement and build upon existing efforts to restore ecological function to a once heavily-developed property. We’ll plant pollinator-friendly perennials to ensure our critical pollinators have sufficient habitat from spring thaw through winter freeze.

ENHANCED SITE ACCESSIBILITY
Overall, the Conservation Center and site improvements will vastly enhance site accessibility and visitor experience by providing accessible indoor bathrooms, improving connectivity to our nonmotorized boat launch, and maintaining a year-round presence onsite.

EXPLORATORY ACTIVITIES AND INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS
Both inside and out exploratory activities and interactive exhibits will deepen visitors’ connection to Newfound, the natural world, and to the mission of the NLRA.
